The Town of Normal takes great pride in maintaining and expanding the community's vital green infrastructure. Participation in the Tree City USA program provides a perfect opportunity for the Town to recognize the importance of our urban tree canopy. Since 1999, the Town has been designated a Tree City USA community by the National Arbor Day Foundation.
The Town of Normal has continued to achieve Tree City USA recognition by meeting the program's four requirements:
The formation of a tree department accountable for the decisions impacting community trees.
A comprehensive tree ordinance, which provides clear guidance for planting, maintaining and removing trees from streets, parks and other public spaces.
A community forestry program with an annual budget of at least $2 per capita.
